The Launching Ceremony of the First Batch of Projects to Build Changsha into a Global Research and Development Center was held at the World Computing - Changsha Intelligent Valley on September 1. 

On the morning of September 1, the Launching Ceremony of the First Batch of Projects to Build Changsha into a Global Research and Development Center was held at the World Computing - Changsha Intelligent Valley. Forty key projects were unveiled, signed or started construction on site. Shen Xiaoming, secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee, announced the launch of the first batch of projects to build Changsha into a global R&D center. Mao Weiming, deputy secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and governor of Hunan Province, delivered a speech.

Provincial leaders Li Dianxun, Wu Guiying, Xie Weijiang, Qin Guowen, and Zhou Haibing; Zhang Zhongyang, deputy secretary of the CPC Leadership Group and general manager of the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation; Zheng Qinghua, principal of the Tongji University and deputy secretary of its CPC Committee; Jiang Zhiying, secretary of the CPC Committee of Jilin University; and academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering Li Jiancheng, Huang Baiyun and Bai Lianyang, attended.

Zhang Jin, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and vice-principal of Peking University and Standing Committee member of its CPC Committee; Mei Yanchang, president of the City University of Hong Kong; Guo Huadong, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and director of the International Research Center of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals; Zhou Hongyi, founder, chairman and CEO of the 360 Group; and, Yang Chengzu, vice president of the Continental Group China, made speeches.

The World Computing - Changsha Intelligent Valley, as a pioneer zone for creating a global R&D center, is located in the core area of Xiangjiang New Area. It covers an area of 1,000 mu (about 66.7 hectares), with a total investment of over 18 billion yuan. The first phase of the zone, with a construction area of 600,000 square meters, will be completed in 2023, and the entire project will be finished by 2025. The zone will bring together six major innovation platforms including the Xiangjiang Laboratory and PKU-Changsha Institute of Computing and Digital Economy, and introduce over 100 leading enterprises such as Huawei, Sugon, Great Wall Technology, Hunan Xiangjiang Kunpeng Information Technology, and Hunan Kylinsec Technology. A public computing power center of Hunan Province with a computing capacity of up to 1000P will be established, laying a solid foundation for building Changsha into a global R&D center and constructing an industrial ecosystem.

At the launching ceremony, 18 projects including the Freshwater Valley-Central South University Low Carbon and Hydrogen Metallurgy Laboratory, Saongroup Global New Energy Product and Technology Research and Development Center, and Ant Group's Central South Research and Development Headquarters were unveiled on site. Additionally, 16 projects, including the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology Hunan Branch and Industrial Base, Guojian Group's Central China Regional Headquarters, and Huawei Cloud Industrial Innovation Center, were signed at the ceremony. Six projects, including the Hunan Farida Headquarters Research and Development Center and the Tenda Global Research and Manufacturing Base, started construction via a video link.

The event was attended by representatives from national-level innovation platforms, enterprise research and development headquarters, and Fortune Global 500 companies, including Huawei, Germany's Hörmann Group, Anhui USTC-GZ Information Technology, and Pengcheng Laboratory.
