Two Hunan Sites Selected as National Key Leisure Tourism Counties

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs launched the application and monitoring work of national key counties for leisure agriculture in 2022. It aimed to implement the spirit of No. 1 central document and the guideline on expanding functions of agriculture and promoting high-quality development of rural industries, implement a plan to upgrade rural leisure tourism, explore functions of agriculture, tap into multiple value of rural areas, and pool resources. After going through such procedures as application, selection, expert review, and online publicity, 60 counties (cities and districts) were selected as national key counties for leisure agriculture in 2022. Hecheng District in Huaihua City and Xinhua County of Hunan Province made the list.

Hecheng District in Huaihua City goes all out to develop the all-for-one tourism industry, achieving win-win situation for ecological and social efficiency. The photo above shows Huangyan Ecological Tourist Area, a national 4A-level scenic area.

The construction of national key counties for leisure agriculture is a specific action to implement the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress, comprehensively promote rural revitalization, and accelerate the construction of an agricultural powerhouse. It is also an effective measure to build a beautiful and harmonious countryside that is desirable to live and work in. Departments of agriculture and rural affairs at all levels are asked to take the construction of key counties for leisure agriculture as an opportunity to strengthen overall coordination and interdepartmental linage, and increase guidance services, policy support, publicity and promotion, and dynamic management. Areas with advantages in leisure agricultural resources shall take the lead in achieving breakthroughs in industrial agglomeration development, policy integrated innovation, and facility service upgrading. These efforts will help create a pilot area for the high-quality development of leisure agriculture and facilitate the modernization of agriculture and rural areas.

It is hoped that the recognized key counties for leisure agriculture will play a leading role, integrate county resources, and promote the high-quality development of leisure agriculture.
