2023 Hunan Canola Flower Festival Opens

On March 9, the launching ceremony of the 2023 Hunan Canola Flower Festival was held in Luowen Village, Wuzui Township, Nanxian County. Zhang Yingchun, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and vice governor of Hunan Province, attended and announced the opening of the festival. The event was hosted by the Hunan Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the Yiyang Municipal People's Government.

With the theme of "Canola Flowers Blossom and Hunan Awaits You", this year's canola flower festival has set up sub-venues in 11 counties (cities and districts) including Wangcheng District, in addition to the main venue in Nanxian County. At the launching ceremony, the Hunan Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs released a list of "rural tourist spots with the most beautiful view of canola flowers in Hunan in 2023", and 13 townships and villages including Luowen Village in Wuzui Township in Nanxian County and Suoshi Town in Shuangfeng County were included in the list. The Nanxian government signed strategic cooperation agreements with five oil processing enterprises, one canola sprout processing enterprise, one canola oil e-commerce enterprise, and the Hunan Provincial Canola Industry Association to jointly promote the high-quality development of the canola industry in Nanxian County.

The festival will last until early April. During the festival, a variety of activities will be held, such as the Hunan canola production site promotion conference, canola-oriented agricultural machinery and agricultural technology exhibition, a display and promotion of characteristic agricultural products, new media influencers visiting Nanxian County, and the Luowen Marathon. At sub-venues, local township Party secretaries or township mayors will serve as recommenders to promote the festival via livestreaming.

Hunan is a main area of canola production in China. The CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and the Hunan Provincial People's Government have selected the oil crop industry as one of the province's top ten 100-billion industries with agricultural advantages and characteristics. The holding of the canola flower festival helps promote integration of the canola industry and rural tourism, which brings good economic, social and ecological benefits.
