Hunan's Exports of Fireworks and Firecrackers Account for 60% of China's Total

According to data released by the Changsha Customs, Hunan exported 4.396 billion yuan of fireworks and firecrackers in 2023, accounting for 60.9% of the country's export value of fireworks and firecrackers. Of the total, Changsha exported 4.05 billion yuan and Zhuzhou exported 340 million yuan.

Compared to earlier years, the export market structure of Hunan's fireworks and firecrackers in 2023 has been greatly changed. Market demands in the European Union (EU) and Africa have increased significantly. In 2023, Hunan exported 1.45 billion yuan of fireworks and firecrackers to the EU, a year-on-year increase of 33.5%. The trade volume accounted for 33% of the province's export value of fireworks and firecrackers, making the EU Hunan's largest fireworks and firecrackers exporter. Hunan's fireworks export value with Africa surged 146.8% to 150 million yuan, while the province's fireworks export value with the United States amounted to 1.33 billion yuan, accounting for 30.3%.

According to the Changsha Customs Authority, there has been a significant increase in the number of fireworks consumers, driven by major fireworks purchasers in the EU lifting the ban on fireworks. The move, has partly boosted the growth of fireworks consumption. Hunan exported 440 million yuan and 210 million yuan of fireworks and firecrackers to Germany and the Netherlands, up 226.5% and 83.2% respectively. Liuyang Zhaofeng Fireworks Trading Co., Ltd. has seen a remarkable surge in orders from the EU this year, with an increase of over 60% compared to previous periods.

In 2023, China-Africa trade in fireworks and firecrackers witnessed explosive growth, thanks to the policy of constructing the Pilot Zone for In-depth China-Africa Economic and Trade Cooperation and the opening of a new air route linking Shanghai with Djibouti. Hunan's exports to Djibouti achieved a breakthrough, surging to 67.96 million yuan. Hunan's exports to South Africa were 54.11 million yuan, an increase of 86.8%.

Combination fireworks have become the main driver of export growth. Small family fireworks shows are popular in European and American countries and regions, resulting in hot sales of combination fireworks, known for their better visual effect.
