A video conference was recently held between Changsha, China and San Pedro Sula, Honduras simultaneously with the signing ceremony for a letter of intent to establish a friendship city relationship between the two cities. Zhou Haibing, vice governor of Hunan Province and mayor of Changsha City, and Roberto Contreras, mayor of San Pedro Sula, jointly signed the agreement. So far, Changsha has established friendship city or friendly economic and trade cooperation relations with 58 cities from 36 countries. Also in attendance were Xu Zhengxian, director of the Office of Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee; Changsha municipal leaders Liu Hui and Gao Wenqi; and, Xu Fan, secretary-general of the Changsha Municipal Peoples Government. Honduras is an important country in Central America and a new international partner with China. China and Honduras established diplomatic relations in March of last year. Over the past year, the bilateral cooperation of the two countries has continued to expand, the friendship between the two peoples has become increasingly profound, and broad consensus has been reached on cooperation in various fields. San Pedro Sula is Honduras's largest industrial and commercial city and economic center, leading the country in textiles, sugar, wine, clothing, tobacco, and other fields. Mayor Zhou Haibing noted that Changsha is a dynamic city with an ideal fusion of history, culture, and modern fashion, a charming city featuring a harmonious coexistence of natural ecology and urban landscape, and a strong city where industrial development and innovative resources complement each other. There is broad space for San Pedro Sula and Changsha to work together in mutually beneficial and complementary ways, learning from each other, and contributing to each other's progress. Mayor Zhou sincerely hoped that the two cities will work together to write a new chapter of friendship and create a better future of win-win cooperation. Mayor Roberto Contreras spoke highly of China's development and that of Changsha. He said that San Pedro Sula will thoroughly draw on Changsha's development experience in various fields, hoping that the two sides will further enhance friendly interactions and deepen exchanges and cooperation in medical care, transportation, science and technology, education and other areas to achieve win-win development. Ambassador Yu Bo extended warm congratulations on the friendship city ties between Changsha and San Pedro Sula, adding that the relationship will help broaden cooperation areas, facilitate mutual learning, enhance friendship, and promote the sustained and stable development of China-Honduras relations. The Chinese Embassy in Honduras will continue to support local exchanges and cement people-to-people friendships between the two countries. Ambassador Salvador Moncada expressed high expectations for the two sides to develop their friendship city relationship and deepen their practical cooperation. He expressed the hope that the two sides will strengthen exchanges in various fields, continuously deepening cooperation, enhancing people-to-people ties, and promoting common prosperity and development.
