The 5th International Carbon Neutrality and Green Investment Conference, also the 3rd Zero Carbon Cities Summit, were convened recently. The "Zero Carbon Island" Standard was unveiled.

Orange Isle in Changsha City was shortlisted for the pilot for the standard, and will hence receive further supports in constructing the zero-carbon scenarios.

Orange Isle, alog with Meizhou Island in Fujian Province and Dan'gan Island in Xiangzhou District of Zhuhai City, stood out from numerous candidate projects nationwide due to its representative and demonstrative significance.

In recent years, Orange Isle has been striving to reduce carbon emission in management and electricity consumption and enhance carbon sequestration, realizing the transformation into a "zero-carbon zone on a river island".

On August 14, 2024, the Changsha Orange Isle Zero Carbon Energy Experience Hall was officially put into operation and launched carbon management for the isle. It is estimated that isle's annual electricity consumption is 10.4 million kWh, with about 8,368 tonnes of carbon dioxide emission. Currently, the electricity supply on the isle is fully based on green energy, which is expected to reduce about 5,946 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions. The vegetation on the isle is expected to realize carbon sequestration of 1,052 tonnes.

In addition, the isle has restricted entrance of gasoline-fueled vehicles and utilized outdoor grid-connected new energy facilities. It has achieved remarkable results in reducing carbon emissions in management and electricity consumption sectors, reaching the goal of creating a "zero-carbon isle".
